It was January in Canada. All the birds had gone South, the flowers had died, and the lush green leaves were but a memory. Everything was cold and bare and it made me feel melancholy so I decided to compose a song about it. I wrote this song when I was 10 years old.

Styczen w Kanadzie. Powstal on, kiedy mialem 10 lat.

Melancholy is a sweet, sad song in G minor. It has an A-B-A form. The A part is soft, quiet and melancholy while the B part is active and louder.

Melancholy (Melancholia) jest slodkim, smutnym utworem w g-moll. Ma forme A-B-A. Czesc A jest lagodna, cicha i melancholijna, podczas gdy czesc B jest wzmozona i glosniejsza.

One of my piano students played this last year as his study (teacher’s choice) on his grade 5 piano exam. He was excited to play a piece by a composer roughly his own age.
