Flying High

For this piece I purposely set out to write an uplifting melody. The first thought that entered my mind was that I wanted this song to leave people with high spirits. It was for that reason that I decided to call this song ‘Flying High’.

Flying High is set in C major, with a time signature of 4/4 and A-B-A form. The song starts with a fast, short introduction that is built on a V7 chord. A beautiful A theme follows, built from a triplet arpeggio in the bass and a lyrical melody. The theme slowly modulates to F major and gives way to the B theme, a polonaise-like march in 3/4 time. The music quiets down and the intro is played again, bringing the music back to the A theme. After the A part is repeated, a short coda based on the intro ends the piece.
